The astronomical observatory "Giuseppe S. Vaiana' Astronomical Observatory in Palermo, housed in the Palazzo dei Normanni, is one of the research facilities of the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF). The "Museo della Specola", located at the top of the Pisan tower of the same building, is mainly composed of 18th and 19th century instruments, including achromatic telescopes, a sextant, some barometers and thermometers, as well as the two main instruments: the Ramsden circle and the Troughton equatorial. There are also other contemporary instruments and a series of oil paintings depicting personalities from the scientific world.
