Parrocchia Santi Vitale e Compagni Martiri in Fovea – Scary artworks
Walking along the nave in St. Vitale you have the impression of being in a world full of sufferings: the terrible stories of some prophets are depicted on the walls, while in the transept the martyrdom and lapidation of St. Vitale are represented. It seems that these frightful paintings were directed to the Jesuit novices who would soon start to spread the word of Christianity among the Protestants. The horrible scenes would made them strong and ready to face anything on their path, a kind of training for the future "soldiers" of the Church!
