Piazza Statuto – Turin’s black heart
Without a doubt Turin's most singular, sinister, and enduringly mysterious square, piazza Statuto is the city's black heart, the sinkhole where all of Turin's darkness seems to gather. Since antiquity this place was the setting for executions and burials, chosen for its western orientation, towards the setting sun. Proof of this was recently uncovered as a vast necropolis was found beneath the plaza, its area extending between the square itself, corso Principe Eugenio and corso Francia.
