Planeta Palace – Bomb fragments

0
May 1943 saw the worst air raid on Palermo of the Second World War. More than 1,100 227-kilogram bombs were dropped on the city, and two of them hit the right wing of Palazzo Planeta (in Via Michele Amari, at the corner of Via Principe di Belmonte), causing it to collapse. If you walk past this building today and look at the façade, on the first floor, you will see niches in which parts of the two bombs that hit the palace are preserved, as a reminder of what it was but above all of its rebuilding.
