Portico d’Ottavia – A suspect witch
People say that near Portico d'Ottavia the ghost of Berenice, Tito's lover who was killed because suspected of being a witch, appears and waits for her man who loved her all his life. Legend has it that the woman was first married to Marco Giulio Alessandro and then to her uncle Erode di Calcide. She later felt in love with General Tito and she even moved to Rome to stay with him in 79 A.D. when he took power. However, due to recurring slanders, the two lovers had to split and end their love relationship.
