Royal Palace – The Dioscuri’s statues

Castor and Pollux, the inseparable Dioscuri, keep watch over the Royal Palace gate on the back of two rearing bronze horses. Though similar, the two are not a perfect mirror of each other: a symbol of friendship in diversity. As marked by the glyphs on the gate's railing, perfectly oriented towards the sunrise, it's from this very spot that originate the imaginary lines dividing the city into twelve sectors, one for each astrological symbol, and it's also here, near the Fountain of Tritons, that according to legend lies hidden one of the six entrances to the alchemical caves ensconced in the city's underground.
