Sancta Santorum – The relic of Christ’s foreskin

0
Several holy relics were "invented" during the Middle Ages; one of them is the Christ's foreskin. According to Jewish tradition, Christ was circumcised 8 days after his birth. The empress of Byzantium Irene of Athens finally found it and gave it to Carlo Magno as wedding gift. Later, it was enshrined in Sancta Sanctorum in Laterano by order of the Pope, where it is still preserved. Today, this relic is not officially recognised by the Church.
