Scotti Palace – The sad end of Donizetti

0
The rooms on the piano nobile of this building were the scene of Gaetano Donizetti's last act on earth. They were sad days, full of despair and anguish, made even more terrible by the impotence of medical treatment against an illness that had now reached its final stage. In the main hall of Palazzo Scotti, the memory of the composer's last days in Bergamo lives again in the presence of the portrait of the Maestro painted by Giuseppe Rillosi when the illness, by then in its most acute phase, had produced devastating consequences. The painting rests on the piano that the Maestro had bought in Vienna and brought with him on one of his visits to Bergamo.
