Specola Museum – An astronomical museum

0
Since ancient times, man has looked up to the heavens to peer into their secrets, fascinated and intrigued by the planets whose motion has influenced his life and activities since time immemorial. For his astronomical studies, he chose special places that could facilitate the observation of the planets and their motions. One of these places is the Specola tower, built between 1712 and 1726 at Palazzo Poggi, whose rooms now house the Astronomical Museum of the University of Bologna. Divided into several rooms, including the Sundial Room, the Globe Room and the Turret Room, it offers a wide overview of the instruments that were used by astronomers in the past, such as armillary spheres or wooden telescopes for observing the sky, clocks, nautical and topographical instruments used for orientation.
