St. Christopher Church in Naviglio – The lighthouse of the pilgrims

0
St. Christopher Church located in Naviglio Grande was considered as a lighthouse in the past because of its 15th-century tower. It indicated to those arriving by boat on Ticino River that they were approaching the city and this characteristic perfectly recalls the nature of the saint that gave the name to the church. During the Middle Ages, St. Christopher was venerated as the protector of pilgrims, travellers as well as boatmen and he is still commemorated every July 25th with a festival.
