St. Nazaro Maggiore – St. Ambrose’s autograph

0
The Basilica of St. Nazaro Maggiore is also known as Balisica of the Holy Apostles. This name is no coincidence, as a few apostles' relics are enshrined here. The church was built on the initiative of St. Ambrose during a very difficult period for the Church, hardly hit by Arian heresy. As a sign of loyalty to the Pope, it was built up in the ancient "Via Romana". In 386 A.D. relics of St. Thomas, St. Andrew and St. John have been moved to this church and put into a shrine, where an "autograph" of Milan's patron saint can be found. The name "Saint Nazaire" was added at a later time, when St. Ambrose collected the remains of the martyr.
