Tale of the flag-bearing devil –

0
At the junction between via de' Vecchietti and via Strozzi you can find a bit of a curiosity: the statue of a flag-bearing devil, commissioned by Bernando Vecchietti. This sculpture stands on the very spot where, according to folklore, St. Peter the Martyr was interrupted while preaching by the Devil himself, disguised for the occasion as a bolting black horse. The saint managed to hold down the creature with but a holy gesture, an exceptional event which certainly warranted a commemorative statue.
