Tasso Palace – The coat of arms with the post horn
At 80 Via Pignolo, Palazzo Tasso, now called Lanfranchi, dates back to the early sixteenth century and is marked on the street by a rusticated portal surmounted by the coat of arms of the Tasso family, who managed the European postal service for centuries, accumulating immense wealth and noble titles. The coat of arms features a post office cornet in the upper field and a badger in the lower field. The building is famous for being the home of the poet Torquato Tasso, but also because, at the end of the 17th century, some rooms were prepared for a stay, which never took place, of Queen Christina of Sweden.
