The Basilica di St. Babila – The sacrifice of Antioch’s Bishop

0
According to the tradition, the church of San Babila was built on the ruins of a temple consacrated to the Sun God. The present building was dedicated to St. Babila, the 13th Bishop of Antioch, who was martyred under the Emperor Decio in 250 D.C., after he refused to let Emperor Filippo, a murder, enter into the church. Three children died together with him: Prilidiano, Epolonio and Urbano, sons of Teodula, whose custody was given to St. Babila in order to receive a Catholic education.
