The Lumière brothers’ invention – Turin’s first movie theater
On December 28, 1895 brothers Louis and Auguste Lumière first screened a short film in front of a paying Parisian crowd. Not even a year later, on November 7, 1896, a specially-equipped locale at via Po 33 was inaugurated under the name of "Cinématographe Lumière", opening its doors to a selected audience. It was an instant success: such were the interest and enthusiasm surrounding the new art form that Turin became the first pioneering capital of Italian cinema.
