The name of this street, Via Titta Scarpetta, is actually a "recycled" name. Until 1927, this street was called Vicolo della Scarpetta ("Alley of the small shoe") because there was a marble foot wearing a sandal on a wall of this street. One day the small scultpure disappeared and the people decided to dedicate the street to Titta Scarpetta, a local patriot born in 1500s and killed by the Turkish army during the battles to defend Malta.
