“They stole my priest” – The mural dedicated to Don Gallo

In Piazza del Carmine there is a mural dedicated to Don Andrea Gallo. "They Stole My Priest" is the title of this work of street art. The reference is to a real event that is recalled in the drawing itself. It all began on 1 or 2 July 1970. It was the day the neighbourhood took to the streets to protest against the transfer of the then deputy parish priest Don Andrea Gallo. Among them was a child crying on the steps of the church. A policeman asked him why. He replied: 'They have stolen my priest'. Over time, several drawings were made on the wall of the steps leading up to San Bartolomeo, but they never lasted very long. The new one, on the other hand, was made using a new technique, so it should last longer. The drawing shows the silhouette of the priest "of the last", speaking to a megaphone in the midst of his children.
