Torre Argentina – The ambitions of the Pope’s master of ceremonies
What is left of Torre Argentina can be found in the courtyard of Palazzetto del Bucardo. This tower was erected by order of Johannes Burkardt, known as Bucardo. He was a Belgian nobleman who worked as the Pope's master of ceremonies and, for this reason, wanted a gorgeous house with a tower. On the tower it was visible the word "argentina" coming from "Argentinus", the God of Silver: he was rich and he wanted that everybody in Rome knew that.
