The Tower delle Milizie is one of the most well-known monuments in the area, despite it is shorter than it used to be. It was built in the 13th century and it is also known as Torre di Nerone as, in folk literature, the emperor is represented on the top of the tower playing cithara and reciting Omero's verses while looking satisfied at Rome burning down.
