Via Addaura – The King’s hunting park
Why is Via Addaura called this? As some documents from the 1200s show, the area known as 'Daura' was once the king's hunting park. The origin of this name, contrary to what one might think, is in no way linked to the laurel tree, which in Sicilian is called 'addauru', but is more easily identified with the Arabic term 'dawra', which means 'roundabout'. In fact, the Addaura area develops around Monte Pellegrino, bypassing it.
