Via Barbaroux – The “haunted house”

0
In 1798, a second-floor apartment on number 7 of via Barbaroux became the setting of jealousy-fueled bloodshed as a man stabbed his wife to death before taking his own life with a gunshot. After this gruesome incident, the building attained a sinister fame. Witnesses reported night-time echoes of voices engaged in violent arguments, followed by a woman's screams and the sound of gunfire. Locals started avoiding the structure's vicinity, dubbing it a "haunted house". Twenty years later, on May 18, 1818 a young man named Antonio Carbone, following a mysterious night encounter with a "beautiful dame", had a mass celebrated for the two unfortunate souls involved in the tragedy and then took residence in the apartment himself. After that, peace slowly returned to the house.
